Chanterane is located on the Dordogne/ Haute-
Vienne border, approximately 2 km's from the small village of Lanouaille. The modern city of Limoges with its own
airport is only about a 50 minute drive away and the historic city of Perigueux is only about 35 minutes by car.
The
village hosts a small convenience store as well as 2 restaurants/ bars, 2 boulangeries, a tabac and a fuel station. The village
is centrally located for travelling north to the famous pottery region of Limoges, south to historic Perigueux- gateway to
Bordeaux and Spain, east to the Massif Central mountain range/ French Alps or west to the Atlantic coast. It is conveniently
located for both sightseeing* and outdoor activities+ whilst enjoying breathtaking countryside that boasts many rivers. The
whole area is also steeped in ancient history. Richard the Lionheart and Eleanor of Aquitaine frequently travelled to the
chateau in Excidueil, the village of which is only a five minute drive away that hosts a market every Thursday. The
impressive chateau/ castle at Pompadour is also a must- see as is the outstanding chateau at Hautefort which is only a 15
minute drive away whilst Chateau La Durantie is conveniently located nearby.
*Sightseeing includes the pre-historic
caves of the region- about a 30 minute drive to where the earliest European humans settled. There are also dinosaur footprints
to be found in the riverbed near to Excideuil.
+Outdoor activities that can be found at nearby Lake Rouffiac (which
also has forest trails and a sandy beach) include safe swimming, fishing, canoeing and cable water skiing thereby offering
activities for all the family. Horse riding and hiking can also be enjoyed nearby.
There is also a 9 hole (par 4) golf
course overlooked by a beautiful chateau that is only a five minute drive away.
